The Greasy Spoon Cafe

This greasy spoon cafe scene started life as a diorama for a previous project - my little ketchup bottle and napkin holder prop set. The plan was to make a small set to showcase those props in situ, however the project quickly ballooned into something larger, where I had lots of room to fully explore and develop my own style of the hand painted PBR look.

I ended up pulling lots of different influences together into a style that I think is pretty cool, one that emphasises bold shapes and sketchy texture.

This was maybe my favourite asset to texture, and where I feel like I really found my feet with the style I was going for

Most props were textured in Substance Painter, using a packed ARM texture format

Materials created in Substance Designer, which would go on to be used in a trim sheet

I experimented lots with how I wanted to approach roughness, and ended up on a medium frequency approach - this gives the surfaces some interest in the lighting, whilst letting the base colour texture shine through as the star
